PostSubject: Quotes Foreign Proverbs   Wed May 25, 2011 1:47 pm

So many cultures have such great wisdom to pass down to us.
I love using proverbs on my layouts when I myself might be at a loss for the right words.

Here's some I wanted to share with you that I thought were appropriate for scrapbook pages. Feel free to use or add some that you love as well!

Irish Proverbs
“Necessity is the mother of invention.”
Necessity knows no law.
"Mothers hold their children's hands for just a little while...
And their hearts forever."
"Your feet will bring you where your heart is."
"Do not resent growing old. Many are denied the privilege."
"Life is like a cup of tea, it's all in how you make it"
"A friend's eye is a good mirror."
"Face the sun, but turn your back to the storm."
"May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.
And rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand." (Irish Blessing)
"May the saddest day of your future be no worse than the happiest day of your past."
"May your pockets be heavy and your heart be light, May good luck pursue you each morning and night."

Chinese proverbs
"A bird does not sing because it has an answer. It sings because it has a song."
"A book holds a house of gold."
"A child's life is like a piece of paper on which every person leaves a mark."
"Each generation will reap what the former generation has sown."
"A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step”
"Tell me and I forget, show me and I may remember and involve me and I understand'.”
"If you do not change direction, you will end up where you are going."
""The more you sweat in peacetime, the less you bleed during war."
"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."

African Proverbs
“When the music changes, so does the dance”
“However long the night, the dawn will break.”
“Peace is costly but it is worth the expense”
“It is better to be loved than feared”
“Don't set sail on someone else's star”
“He who learns, teaches”
“When there is no enemy within, the enemies outside cannot hurt you.”
“Wisdom does not come overnight”
“Wherever man goes to dwell his character goes with him.”
“If you climb up a tree, you must climb down the same tree”
“For tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today”
“When you know who his friend is, you know who he is”

English Proverbs
A chain is only as strong as its weakest link
A friend in need is a friend indeed
